Okay, I just checked the Ecu and got code 55. Which I believe means all clear haha. The car doesn't even know what's going on haha

imo the ecu fault code thing is a waste of time. you can unplug all kinds of stuff and it says code 55.

The only thing that has to fall in the "expected" output range is the AFM. If that reading is judged incorrect it informs you by going into limp home mode and won't rev over 2000rpm. This usually requires a gross air leak or unplugging of the AFM.

The stuff it shows mode III fault codes are only for open circuit (unplugged) or short circuit.

Mode V shows dynamic codes for missing CAS signals, unstable AFM signal and no1 ignition.

So do a mode V ecu test!

Completely forgot about the other test modes

I tried the V test, but I didn't see any lights. Do you need to drive about for it to throw codes?

Tried the V test again today, I found the proper procedure in the FSM.. Still no lights at all. Ran it for about 10-15 minutes just to make sure, but nothing flashed. Also tried the III test again, and got 55 again. So the self diagnostics is proving to be a dead end.

Pointz, would you still be open to send me a CAS to try? I've not had any joy finding one near me.

Change of plan, I've just bought it. If it doesn't fix the problem, I'll just sell it on

It doesn't feel like it's slipping out of time now, but it still needs to be turned fully clockwise to sit at 15°

Are you looking at the correct pulley mark?

Last but one clockwise, viewed from front.

    Marks are -5, 0, 5, 10, 15, 20.

Yeah, from the front, it's the second from the right. I have a video, but it's difficult to see. I'll upload it anyway

How much was it skimmed for the head gasket?

I've no idea tbh. Can that effect timing?

its can, as you are moving the cam sprockets down towards the bottom sprocket, thus shortening the distance. the usual thing to do is to then add this amount to the headgasket to retain the height.

I personally think that maybe you exhaust cam is slightly out. when ever ive put timing belts on CA's ive had to use a big spanner on the exhaust camshaft to move the cam back a few degrease to get the timing marks to line up.

although it maybe out due to skimming the head and using and using a standard thickness gasket. but im not sure what the relationship between the two is eg.. 10thou skim = 1 deg ignition timing etc...
