    running issues

my car seems to be idling real rough and also when driving you put your foot down to go and sometime it will stutter or sometimes it seems like the car cuts out completely and the jolts and starts to move,
sounds like it spitting out the exhaust a lot when this happen and also stinks of petrol, however this problem doesn't happen overtime i drive it, it happens a lot but sometime it will drive okay but it always seems really underpowered,
i think it may just be a boost leak but does anyone have thoughts on anything else i can check

Have you tired / checked the coil packs? I.e when it's running rough try disconnecting one and see if it gets worse or doesn't change. Relatively easy to try and rules them out.

The video from the engine bay sounds terrible. Don't know if it's just the mic on the phone or something, but it sounds really rattly. Sounds like a diesel!

Regarding the rough idle, does it only do it when warm?

Have you checked the plugs for evidence of over fuelling?

Defo do a boost leak check.

I've recently just changed the coil packs so I'd like to think it's not them, and yeah it sounds horrible it's VVT rattle becuase it doesn't sound like that when I'm actually driving it, I think it's only when warm yeah

seems like a coilpack issue I had, but if you've changed them perhaps not. Might be worth checking them though

Did you have the problem before the coil pack change? It's not unknown, I believe, for new coil packs to be defective.

I have a similar rough idle only when warm, though not as bad, but I can't get to the bottom of it.

Yeah I had similar problems before and swapped them and it helped it but now it's happening again

Sounds like vvt rattle, but the running issue sounds like my old s15 did when the lambda sensor packed in.

Would the fact I'm running no cat now effect the lambda sensor??

Lots of cars running de-catted fine on a lambda, including mine. I have had a duff lambda and it resulted in over fuelling. Try disconnecting the sensor with the engine running to see if anything changes.

i tried disconnecting each coil pack 1 by 1 when it was running and from what i can tell the misfire got worse overtime, but i unplugged the lambda and it run better for a bit then went back to lump idle

Reason I mentioned the coilpacks is they look similar to the red ones my bro brought and at least two of his died quickly, one was dead on arrival the other took a few weeks!

He also had lambda issues, the emissions were all over the place, when I get a chance I'll ask him what the symptoms were, think he just brought a new one in the end
