    T28 rebuild cost

Hi, i have just brought a second-hand T28 to find out that the rear seal has dried out due to not being on a car for a while. I have been quoted £300 for a rebuild. Would you say that this is a genuine price or can you get turbo's rebuilt for cheaper or am i best buying another turbo?

Any help would really be appreciated

    thanks

Sounds a bit steep for a standard T28. Who did you ask?

I am sure that's what I was quoted for a new chra for T28r. So sounds expensive. Let me see if I can dig out the deets for the people who quoted me. Why go through your mechanic? Go straight to the source.

I rebuilt mine myself in my kitchen , cost me about 60 quid for the upgrade parts from turbo rebuild based in fleetwood Blackpool .

I upgraded it with a 360 thrust bearing and used one of there own kits , and I've been to numerous trackdays and I'm boosting it at 1.1 bar.
Probably done 4500 miles so far with no issues

Do you think I'll have to rebuild a T28 that hasn't been used in 7 years? It's off my mates old SR thats been sat in the garage.

Also, where did you get your parts from and how difficult is it to rebuild?

Personally mine was unused for 6 years and after about 1000 miles back on the road it started to smoke .
It was quite easy to be honest as long as you mark everything up. I took photos to as I was stripping it down. There is a how to thread somewhere on here.

It's a few bolts and a bit of care bath all the bearings in new oil etc.

Turbo rebuild is the company based in fleetwood

Need big circlip pliers to get the comp scroll off.

Need a bi-hex 8mm socket for the comp nut.

How the 'el do you hold the turbine to undo the comp nut? One I'm trying to strip appears to have had a lot removed for balance and is tri-lobe.
