Although I am a fan of f1's for road they are the worst affected tyre I have used on track over the last 15 yeasts. They sort of melted although was a baking hot day at silver stone. Keep to shortish sessions as a novice as in warm up for a lap or two have a good 15 mins then cool down lap and you'll find you take remarkably little off the tyres and brakes etc I've found they wear more once you do longer sessions by more than just the extra miles would suggest.

I liked 888 on track and for competitive use but they could go off very quickly on timed runs whereas the federal semi slicks are awesome at half the price but 99% of the grip do not go off as quick and have lasted years. Not good on the road though in heavy rain.

My favourite for a road car with occasional track is bridgestone Re for the cost vs overall performance and longevity

    There's just no way a 595R has 99% the grip of a 888.

Opinions on the 595RSRs and the NS2Rs seem to be rather mixed from everyone, I suppose it's their specific application and all down to personal preference. Instead of killing a good set of F1s, it probably just makes sense to buy a set of either 595RSRs or N2Rs. The varying quality between retailer of the 595RSRs is certainly off-putting, any similar issues with the NS2Rs? The prices of other trackday tyres are pretty wild, suppose it would make sense if you're skilled and going for lap times like mad.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s are £120 for 225/45/17. These are meant to be good right? I've seen they were used for the Nurburgring record in the 918 Spyder

I was really impressed with my 595RSRs but they're no 888.

The federal tyres actually outperformed the 888s in some areas and the timing slips don't lie. I wouldn't have believed it had i not driven them both myself.

I have vastly different experience of both tyres. Proof if ever that tyres are subjective.

I think one of the issues as evil chap mentioned is that there are big differences between manufacturing batches so I suspect we have different compounds
