Hello - Just got my hands on a 1985 Nissan Silvia S12

Just over a week ago I managed to get my hands on my new weekend toy.

It's a 1985, Nissan Silvia with 68k miles. The last owner has owned it for 20 years and only driven it 5k in the last 10 years, keeping it serviced, MOTd and running it round the block.

He has had it in his garage, but decided now was a the time to give it up and through random chat at the gym, my dad managed to bag me a bargain.

From my research, there are only 6 manual versions from this year (the phase 1 version) left on the road. They hardly ever come up for sale as there is so few of them.

The car is mechanically great and is in good overall condition, with just the odd mark and some rust to the arches.

Anyway, here are some pictures. Feel free to leave comments around the value.

I'm jealous, it's the same colour as mine but it's way better and manual. Looks lovely, keep it standard

As a standard low mileage manual car is with good money to a collector. Modify it and it will lose value. If it was rust free, I think you could get 10k for it, especially with all the provenance. Provided there is no structural rust, you should get 6 for it.

So tonight I spent a quick half an hour cleaning the engine bay. Needs a lot more work, but already looks a lot better.

    Before

    After

Also took some pics of the underneath so you can see the condition.

As the sun was shining, I took her out for a drive and took a few pictures. The car is pretty dirty, but I think she still looks good.

Slowly falling in love with it, but need to be careful I don't clock up the miles too quickly.

Thank you. I would like to think it was worth anywhere near that, but I'm not sure it would be. When I come to sell it I guess I'll find out what someone is willing to pay.

The engine bay looks good now. Don't worry about racking up the miles. I used to worry about it with my 13 but people reminded me that you've got to enjoy driving these things.

65k miles or 75k miles, it'll still be worth the same. My estimated values above are based on recent sale prices of s13s. S12s are rarer and at least as desirable to a practical classics collector. They are the people with money to spend on them and that is why it will lose value if you chav it up with big wheels and aftermarket suspension.

Exactly this! Keep it standard. And whatever you do, keep those wheels. Just like my 44 year old Triumph, don't worry about the miles. Drive her on and enjoy. Just worry about the condition and maintenance

Right I purchased a Porsche 911 and this is getting no use. If anyone fancies it drop me a PM with reasonable offers.
