Hi all
I was fitting the front diff bolts and one of the internal nuts snapped off so the bolt is just spinning.
Is there anything i can do ?
Can i drill through and put a nut on top at all ?

Can you not retap the hole?

Turns out its not broken, sonce i fitted the poly bushes i cant move the bolts enough to line both bolts up
Ive spent about 2 hours on this.can line up the back bolts but one of the fronts will not go in fully to the captive nut.keeps getting caught at top of the recess so camt hit the nut.it seems too far forward by about a mm.nothing i do can get it to line up
i always locate the back plate first but dont put the nuts on then put the front bolts in. never had an issue
I think it may be the polybushes wont flex enough to let me line it up
I have 1 bolt in is the problem.it goes in and tightens fine just cant get the other 😓
Have you tried taking the one that goes in fine out and seeing if you can get the other one in then?
Actually no i was using it as a guide.should i give that a go so
mines polybushed, you need to lay under neach with the diff on your chest and push it right up and towards the back of the car. it should sort of click into place and feel solid, then slip one bolt in the front a few turns then the other. then take a breather, back nuts on and tighten them all.
big rachet strap wrapped over the diff flange and round back of sub-frame and squeeze the diff into the frame,
poly end plate bushes should flex and get both front bolt's in,doubt it will work so well with solids
It goes in so far and then just spins and wont catch.if i take the diff out the bolt goes in no problem.are the captive nuts meant to move ?
the nuts sort of float in a holder so they can move a bit and they are quite deep as in the bolt has to go in fair bit to get to the nut threads,
if the bolt goes into the nut then spins the holder has flared out and the nut is spinning and your kind of stuffed,
I think the diff needs to be forced back on the rear back plate bushes as they are thicker/fatter and the diff is sitting forward slightly in the frame
throwing the holes out and causing the agro,
Do you get any movement if you heat the bushes a little?
Are you sure the rear bushes are sitting correctly? I didn't have much problems lining up the bolts with solid bushes...
Ill take it out and make sure the bushes are right.maybe the cup holder in 1 is too far back? thanks very much for all the info guys.ive a few things to try now once the weather clears a bit (joys of building a car on the driveway)
Thanks folks.rear cup on offending side was about 1cm too far forward.all sorted now
