Unhappy Seat choice for long roadtrip + track time?

    Hi guys,

i need some input in regards of what seat to choose for a road/sometimes-race-car.

Im planning a massive road trip next year (will be around 5K KM all in all) with driving on a track in-between.
My current seats are bucket seats and they have served me well so far.
However they do get uncomfortable after even 1-2 hours driving so not an option for the big roadtrip.

Im not sure what brand/sort of seat would be best for that. Any personal experiences? i was thinking of some recliners but they might not be ideal for the track.
Is such a thing even existing yet?
    haha

comfortable for long journeys and will also serve well during track-time?

    Thanks!

You'll need decent quality reclining buckets really, a fixed seat is best on track but obviously crap for long trips.

Cobra have some good options for reclining seats, you'd be best finding somewhere you can actually try the seats first though to get one thats most comfortable??

Might be worth giving Demon Tweeks or GSM Performance a shout, as they both stock seats and sell a wide range of them. They can possibly use your measurements to make some suggestions and may suggest or ask things you wouldn't think of?

    @ R3K1355:
that's the issue, we dont really have any shops where I could try the seats

    @ Evilchap:
thats not a bad idea in regards of measurements!!
i will have a look and contact them, thanks for the tip!!

Where is it uncomfortable? Personally I find bucket seats generally have awful lumber support so you should try and look for a seat that is cushioned in that area.

The seats in my Civic are a bugger for it and that is where I get uncomfortable first. I was looking at some Recaro Specialists / Experts for the 180 ages ago, cost a lot of money but you can adjust everything on them.

Bride Stradia II if you feeling flush would be a good option.

@zeppelin101: yes exactly!! also, you just cant adjust anything, i can barely sit still for 5 minutes (always need to move slightly), so its just a no-go. and for long journeys its just not supportive enough for the back, in the end.

@sx rider : saw them alright but jaysus not that flush ha

What about an s15 seat? They are as comfortable as an OEM seat but have a bit of extra bolster support to stop you rolling around all over the place. Not hugely expensive either compared to buying a new aftermarket seat

Unfortunately if you want seats that properly adjust they cost... I think the Expert L that I was looking at were £800 each you might look at some hand OE fit recaros on eBay? They seem to offer versions of the expert / specialist and a few others in some cars. Only annoying thing is that most of them are leather.

The most comfy seats I've ever had in a car were the stock Recaro seats from an Evo IV. It's uncommon to see a set in good shape these days though. But it will surely be personal preference. Hope you find something suitable

As above, maybe consider recaros from another car?

I have a DC5 and the recaros are lovely! will need custom mounting Im sure but you can get a set for £600 and can be certain they aren't fake!

I found DC3 recaros to be a comfy and fairly supportive seat. Didn't do either job exceptionally well but was good enough to pass. Didn't really do anything more than a couple of 100 miles in any one instance. My old Sparco Evo L fixed back covered around 1200miles including a track day at oulton park and the lake district and were absolutely spit on for me for comfort. Was a pain climbing in and out of them constantly though and being a fixed back seat in a couple means limited gaps for storing shit for the trip

Yep, looking at reclining Brides for my MR2 at the moment and Recaro CS for the BMW, thats about £5 grand of stuff to sit on. Ouch

Anything cheaper isnt going to do what you want it to though, best bet is to keep a sharp eye on ebay etc. I reckon.

How about something that changes the support the current seat offers.

I did find a set of seats, I went for Sparco Recliner's and couldnt refuse that amazing deal that was on demon tweeks. They are not fitted yet so cant say much about how comfortable they are but they do look unreal

Now i have to find rails for them and this is probably the worst part about getting new seats fitting rails!!!!!!!!!
