    Car Insurance - WTF ?!!!!

    Hey guys,

Not sure I am doing something wrong here, but are any of u finding that your getting retarded quotes to insure a normal car ???
    Me: 42yrs young / 18yr NCB , been in JDM for 15yrs......
My R34 GTT costs like £300 a year inc protected, and has been max £390 for past 10 years ....... with total excess of £250

    I get quotes on 2011 - 2014 year cars, which are: BMW 330D , or Merc C350 / E350
And I get stupid results, like £800 + with excess of £500 +
Is it because the type of car is usually associated with Business car insurance, so rates are high as businesses just pay the premiums regardless of cost, or is there something wrong with those cars that push the premiums up ?

Just the way it is I'm afraid. Ordinary car insurance tends to work out more expensive these days.

For reference, my is300 beater is about 130 quid more to insure than my 911.

Think of it that you're just getting a really good deal on the modified, which offsets the ass rape on the daily. Works out alright overall.

Its because there are more claims against run of the mill cars than there are Skylines.

You will also find brand new cars are cheaper to insure than 10 year old shitters, work that out In 2013 i was paying £450 to insure a 53 plate 530d, when i bought the new Focus ST it was £250

cheers guys, makes sense what you say, just seems silly the prices !
When my wife does the same quote, has 6yrs NCB, and puts twice the mileage I do, her quote is £289 less (cheapest quote)...
Think I'm gonna go for the op to get cheaper insurance!

I guess that is down to people looking after new cars better that they have spent a lot of money on? The stats provide the odds.

That was my assumption as well. Just seems funny its cheaper to insure a 25k hot hatch than a 3k diesel estate.

It's due to the number on crashes/claims by people in your age brackets. New car, not had many crashes yet, so therefore cheaper

May as well, she wears the trousers anyway

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

    Statistics and damn statistics.
I'm paying more to insure a Honda Accord today, than I ever did on the S14 daily driver. Seems bonkers.
To double check, I ran my own records through confused.com, on an imaginary S14, and in Feb2018 the S14 would be cheaper than the Accord.
This has to be caused by most Honda Accord owners being old or taxi drivers, or similar random statistics.

My Accord is an automatic. The insurance premium would be 30% less if it was a manual, and yes then less than an S14.
    It's still nuts.

Well, I was toying with the idea of selling the Skyline and getting a normal car for 2 years....
But I think that plan is ruined...
    2012 Merc C350 (3.0 Diesel) Saloon - value - £12k
Me, 42yr , 18yrs NCB , decent area + wife as Named drive.
Cheapest quote I saw based on 20k miles = £547 with LV
    Then I add my SP30 from last year (3pts, £60 fine) ...
That makes a new total of £677 with LV (3 points = £130 extra! wow)

Not done renewal on Skyline yet, but am guessing it will be about £360 based on the 3 points...
    Skyline value is £13k.
Good ole stats! Drivers with sports cars = branded boy racers or tarmac terrors , yet majority of accidents are peeps in normal none sports cars, and are not branded boy racers or tarmac terrors!
    ok

Looks like I keeping the daily mondeo ST tdci and the R34 GTT then !

If you think about it, people look after new cars. Enthusiasts look after classics and modified cars.
Who looks after a ten yr old bimmer ?
So where are the claims going to come from ?

My 500 quid micra 1.0 beater cost me more than my STI WRX type R impreza import to insure.
So I stripped it, coilovers, gtir brakes, stuck an SR20 into it - and it dropped the premium by 75 quid a year despite now being roughly 48 times as deadly! go figure huh..
