What's up with my knock sensor

I'm rebuilding the intake side of the engine atm and was about to attach the knock sensor when I realised one of the wires is off the connector. On removing the cover over the wires to fix it I've found this. Does anyone know if this is a known fix for something or a requirement for fitting an upgrade such as power FC etc or is it just a bodge job on a broken knock sensor.

it certainly looks like a bodge to bypass it or similar. But on spending the last few hours looking this up it appears that its not. Very strange.

    Thanks for your help

it seems that the second wire that looks bodged is actually grounded some where and I assume the metal surface on the bottom of the knock sensor is used to complete the circuit. Good thing i looked into it or I'd have the ecu kicking up stink as i have painted the block bright silver and im going to have to remove the paint under the sensor before i fit it.

I think it’s used as noise shielding
It’s a microphone basically so the metal grounds it when it picked something up it sends the signal to the ecu down the one wire

I'll tape it back up and hope I haven't broke it then.

That’s perfectly normal. That’s how they came from factory.
As said it’s noise cancelling/shielding to give a more accurate knock signal
