Help with an unusual problem please

I have been using the S14a much more recently and enjoying it. Took a trip to see DCMS at Burnley for some bodywork, and then unfortunately broke down on the M65 on the way back, and can't work out the problem.

Car had been running great all day, done 60 miles in it. Was doing about 65 mph on a gentle cruise in traffic when I suddenly lost all power, revs died, engine stuttered, then stalled, luckily made it onto the hard shoulder and coasted to a halt.

First thought was boost leak, but I checked all connections and pipes from turbo, FMIC etc. If I try to restart it splutters and will stall after a few seconds, unless you keep the revs up, it sounds like it's hitting a rev limiter or has anti lag installed, if you try and hold it at 1500 rpm it bands away like anti lag, and sends black clouds of unburnt fuel out of the exhaust.

I had it recovered to my friends garage business, he has checked all the pipe work again for leaks. Also removed spark plugs, although they are black from overfuel they are sparking ok, and the coil packs working.

Have also checked fuel supply which looks ok. I have switched off the Racelogic TC just in case it was cutting in. Sounds like something it trying to cut the power. I have HDev custom map, been working well for 6 years though.

Garage has asked me to dig out the old Nismo 555 injectors to try, just to rule out the 740's.

What else should I try, what do you think it could be?

Just to add, no fluid loss, oil pressure good etc.

    Cheers.

Have you checked spark? Coil pack failure? What coils are you using?

Yes thanks have had plugs and coil packs out, and checked they sparked. Remember fitting either newer or better coil packs a few years ago, can't remember the details though.

First thing I would do is remove the Racelogic completely, then check the AFM

    Can you pull fault codes.

I wonder if the CAS or wiring for it just broke?

I had thought about the Racelogic, but one thought that put me off that was that it is overfuelling hugely and I understood the RL cut the injector signal so that would show as the opposite really? However, as much off a faff as it is to remove the Racelogic that is a good suggestion.

For fault codes do I need the serial cable and Nissan consult? Modern readers don't work do they? Think I have the datascanconsult software still just need to find the serial cable.

I've only seen 1 Racelogic unit play up and cause a missfire, most likely not going to be the issue, but you never know.

Tried it with the AFM unplugged?

It has a Z32 AFM, guess unplugging it is an easy option

Not sure if you got this sorted but only problems with the AFM or ETS will cause the 2000rpm rev limit failsafe to operate, so the problem is likely to be with 1 of these - Either a failed sensor or out-of-range sensor reading, or no power supply or ground to sensor.

You should be able to unplug the ETS and it should clear after a quick ECU reset and run normally. But the AFM will need to be replaced/sorted before it'll rev past 2K.

Sounds more like AFM though to me.

It still in the garage waiting further diagnosis. Thanks for the tips.

The issue happens from tick over at 800rpm all the way to about 2k revs, it will rev to more, there is just lots of unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust.

Corrosion in wiring loom? There are a number of splices on the loom, these can corrode and then you get 12v at the component feed but when it draws current there is a massive volt drop. Can cause loom fires as power lost to the splice is Volts drop x Current. Utter pig to track down as you have pull fairly large current (~5-7A) on every suspect circuit to find if there is a voltage drop. then you have to unbundle the loom to find the splice.

S13 I found a 4 way splice in feed to injectors / ignition had failed in the loom under the fuse box. But I think I still have others to track down.
