I recently got put on a Health Management program at work because my Manager realised something was wrong.

I’m a systems analyst, specialising in log analysis and recently went through a project where over 2 months analysed nearly 500 million lines of Windows 10 trace level logs to try and resolve the issues we found during the Fall Creators Upgrade

I didn’t realise how burnt out I got until a few weeks ago. Worse still, I was working at that level of pressure at BlackBerry and even long before for years at IVAX, probably for the last 20 years. For the last 16, we just used to go out and party afterwards. It really was a work hard play hard rest hard period those 16. A’s some of you know, I can play hard (raw chicken?)

As many of you know, last year I went out to a party and had a real session, the afternoon I crashed my beloved car and ended up getting a drink driving ban. I’m not blaming being burnt out, it was all my fault... but after seeing the therapist last week. I realise that I didn’t realise how much it had affected me all these years and honestly how much I have lost.

We all think we can work through it, with whatever we choose to do - mine was partying. But it creeps up on you in the end. Affects your physical health and mental health.

If you feel burnt out, stop and take stock. Has taken me a long time to do that. I hope my story will help others do that quicker

Take care of yourselves, because no one else will
