    Rear brake help!

Hello I’ve recently bought new discs and pads for my rear and I’ve managed to do everything just fine except for compressing the brake piston, now I’ve had a lot of trouble with putting it back into place as it won’t go over the new pads as they are now a lot thicker.

How an earth can I compress it...I’ve got the special tool for it that goes on the end of the socket but I twist it the right way and it just won’t budge.. I’ve now taken the piston out and cleaned it and sanded the debris off it but still no luck...

Can somebody help this noob out!?

    Cheers
    Notty

Are you twisting it the right way ? There probably due a rebuild as I bet the seals have swelled up

I thought the pistons were stainless on the rear of a 14

If they are and you've sanded them, that's not good

The usual problem with seals is that there is corrosion or congealed brake fluid behind them in the grooves or, if they have been treated to a soaking with WD40 or similar, they swell.

Time for a full caliper rebuild, I'd say.

Sorry, you're right. I meant chrome plated. Sanding them will scratch the shit out of them though.

Metal polish can be used to remove residue if followed by a really good washing in brake cleaner then rinsing with brake fluid.

I had trouble doing my rear pads a couple months ago, i thought the pistons wouldnt go back all the way, turned out to be the sliders had seized causing the caliper not to reach the other side of the new pads, i got new sliders from nissan an it went together no problem!
