S14a think overboost and smell of fuel.

    Hi everyone.
Drove my S14a for the first time today. And it Went great few things I need to adjust and change. But I did notice it seemed to smell of fuel a lot no misfires tho. I did have a spare can in back but it wasn't that. Also I think it was overboosting as my boost gauge went to 1 bar and possibly a little over a next time I put my foot down. Now the apexi boost a gauge is pumped into the little pipe between the fuel pressure and the intake plenumis that correct .Is that way the smell of fuel? Or isn't that because no rec dump valve? I can't remember it smelling of fuel before fit boost gauge but that was a few months ago on a 1 mile trip.

Now my performance mods so far are.
    Fmic
    Induction kit
    Vvti delete
    Carbon can delete.
    Pigeon mod.
    De cat.
    Exhaust 3"
    Should be standard boost

Any help would be good also what's the next best mods

    Cheers

You shouldn't use the fpr hose for the boost controller.

Not running boost controller yet, but gauge is it fph. Never trust google. Ok so change it to one of the pipes under the intake part of the plenum?
Problems was I toke all the pipes of etc then saved and brought a house so after a year didn't know where some pipes went so google where to connect pipes.
    Thank you chriscooke

No worries mate, when you removed the carbon canister did you leave the pipes in the engine bay?

Exhaust and fmic may of raised the boost from standard

I really can't remember I followed the how to guide On here. Can remember looping the metal pipe. And looping a pipe under the intake. But it was years ago.

S14a think overboost and smell of fuel.

VVT delete?? Why? Have you had the engine mapped for that?

I know it's not the best for performance. But Vvti sprocket was making loads of noise. And I wasn't going to spend £300 on a second had one then replace it again. But yes in the near future hopefully should be remapped.

It will have the FBU done on it, the free boost upgrade - it will spike past a bar. Removal of a brass restrictor in one of the turbo pressure lines.

As for the vvti, i would refit it and just set it to on all the time, you will be loosing a lot of mid range off like that. Just power the solenoid from a switched live and it keep it on and the rattle will prob disappear.

Did I miss something or wouldn't that pretty much have the same result as using a non-vvt cam sprocket?

Smell of fuel can come from the carbon canister hoses.

I would assume thats down to whether the cam is left in the advanced position or not.
I shut my one up with just feeding 12v to the solinoid all the time, its left it on.

This is very interesting.does it not cause problems higher up the Rev range? As far as I’m aware the vct works from 1100 to 5700rpm

This is correct. And wiring it permanent on isn’t ideal.

Best to wire it to a switch that you can activate at start up that will supply the solenoid with oil initially to stop the noise. And then let the ECU take over control as usual.

Never bothered me, you could map it out if it was a problem - with good fuel i doubt it will.
