    SR20DET cams? 256 or 258?

    Hello all,

I've got an S14a and I'm looking to get the hydraulic lifters replaced. Whilst I'm at it I'm planning on getting cams and springs put in. The Tomei Poncams seem to be the most recommended.

I was just wondering if it's the 256 or the 258 I need?

It's a street car, it will see the occasional track but not many and definitely not to begin with.

It has a full exhaust system, GT2871R, Nismo 740cc injectors, front mount intercooler, Nismo clutch and flywheel, full induction kit (got an R35 maf to go on when it's in for tuning), fuel pressure regulator and boost controller with R8 coilpacks.

Also has a Nistune board which has a base map on from Martin Battye.

    Thanks!

    Kishan

Seen the same spec get 390Bhp with 256 poncams. That’s the route I’d go if doing it again

What does Martin recommend? I'd be asking him or whoever will be tuning it. 260 Pro's in mine with 740's and a TD06-20g making 400 ponies.

256 Poncams would be a good match for that setup, if you start throwing bigger turbo's on there you might want to look to Procams, but by that power lever you're forging the bottom end, upgrading the gearbox and all sorts anyway.

    Kish,

The 258s are supposed to be better than the 256s, the marketing spiel is they're a good middle ground between the 256 and the 264.

Realistically, you'd never know the difference unless you drove on both and were specifically looking for the differences.

I went with the 258s because no one else I know has them yet.

Be aware, the 258s are Tomei USA and not Tomei Japan.

As Lee has said, talk to Martin and find out what's best in his map. I imagine it's 256s but again, both 256 and 258 are meant for simple cars like ours.
