big ends went... just a tired, poorly treated old engine pushed too hard (sounds like me )

But, I've got a nice shiney new one now and it's so powerful I've been struggling for any decent traction in 3rd gear all winter

higher boiling point - can run brakes hotter

not much use on standard brakes though - can still only do 3 laps at a trackday before serious fade

    solution? get bigger brake discs/calipers

The car is a dark maroon red colour are they gonna be hard to find? Thanks for any help I feel I'm going to be asking quiet a lot of questions over the coming months/years...

    Question

It's a long time since my last post on here, so about time for an update... plus some bad news at the end

Now the bad news. I took my car recently on a trip from Scotland to Germany to a mate for some underside welding. Top half of the car is almost immaculate. The report is that the whole underside looks like swiss cheese but much much worse. On top of that the MOT has run out. What should I do?

When you started this thread the answer was RESHELL.

May not be so easy any more and logistics with it being in Germany could be an issue.

buy a good late one and put all your stuff on it. Just need a van or trailer to put all the bits in and bring them back. ALL the bits means every bit down to glass, loom and brake pipes, except the rusty shell. Takes one man, 3 days to strip a car.

Dunno how you go about getting an EOL cert in Germany that would satisfy the DVLA. So you could be doing SORN on it every year for the rest of your whole life.

Only other thing to do is trailer the whole lot back.

Man up and break-out the welder. The underside of mine looks like a patchwork quilt, but it's the underside it's hardly on show.
