    Big brake fitting issues.....

due to a break in the weather today I thought I would have a crack at fitting my newly aquired 315mm brembo's from dan....

all went swimmingly until refitting the wheels(stock s14a 16's)the bracket supplied fitted perfect and the caliper sit's nice in it's new position, BUT...the wheels won't turn?!!!! part of the caliper is catching on the wheel,is it the brake pad clip?

the balancing weights are on the outside of the rim, dust shield was bent out of the way and all the correct spacers were fitted

is there something I have forgot? something else that needs modifying?

I want them on asap as my current brakes are shot

    cheers james

It's likely to be the pad clip that fits between the pads and isretained by the pad pins, remove it refit the wheels if they now turn that's your problem and it will need modding to clear, I'm sure there is more info on this within the forum if required

worst case it'll be a calipers just rubbing on the wheel. the casting tolerances on them can be a bit off so just shave a little off with a dremel/grinder. shine a light from behind with the wheel fitted to see exactly which part may be touching.

Yeah, I am afraid this is rather normal

I ran without the clips in for a while, and all was fine If it is still rubbing... you need to file the calipers back a bit as said

Remember to keep the other clip at the end of the pin so they dont fall out.
Some new rims would be the best option.

had a go at these again today.......and had to take them back off again
removed the pad retaining clip and thats not the problem...

looks like I'm going to have to remove quite alot of material from the caliper!!!
the bottom half of the caliper seems to have plenty of room yet closes up near the top,
I have seen these fitted behind stock wheels on here before...but oh my the grief!!

my poor project mu's are being murdered by the out of shape standard disks

    gotta order some nurburgring's soon

Get some cheapy second hand wheels if you dont want to attack your caliper with a grinder...

My Z32 alloy jobbies have been attacked with a file to make them clear the discs properly (long story involving dodgy ebay seller selling me the wrong part) and filed a little to clear the standard wheels which I have now ditched.

I had the same problem with standard wheels, so I just bought a set of 18's instead

try loosening the bolts of a touch and pull the caliper in towards the center of the hub a little, might just be slightly mis-aligned

The calipers are steel. The wheels are alloy. Steel is harder than alloy..... Just let physics take its natural course and you'll end up with some perfectly balanced, grooved alloys .

Think they are better off only being fitted on cars with 17's or bigger. Yes they can fit on standard rims but its 50/50 Its just far too tight IMO

Something looks a miss there, I have the 315mm kit from Dan on my S15 (Well was told i have?) but am running standard S14a wheels at the moment (some prat kurbed my 18"'s ) and there's alot more clearence than that, yes the retaining clip needed modifying but was at least 3/4mm between wheel and caliper.
I'd check you have the kit fitted correctly.

The problem being is there are about 3 or more different Nissan castings for S14 wheels

Jim if you wish to return them just let me know
