View Full Version : Solution to RB25 swap speedo readings??

Has anyone found a definitive solution to the problem of converting the RB25 gearbox output to read correctly on the S13 clocks?

I'd rather just use my original clocks and not have to faff about with RB25 or S13 Silvia clocks!

Also, has anyone got through the MOT with a speedo that reads half what it should do? Can I just tape a conversion table to the dash??

Speedo is not part of the MOT test

Dont think there is an easy way hence why people use import clocks etc ;)

if ur not going big power use an rb20 box with s13 speed sensor, i did and mine is bang on :)

I used this on my last swap:

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=126/category_id=311/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd126.htm

and heres how to hook it up:

hope it helps....

Nice idea, but I'm not going to take my RB25 gearbox and custom ally prop off just to get the speedo to read correctly ;)

I have toyed with the idea of getting an after market speedo, but I don't think they would sit in the existing hole in the dash very well :(

iv odered a head up gps speedo for mine. lil thing that shows the speed on the window for you... all fully approved and very accurate, mainly used for driving instructors.

Can you post a link for it?

Import S13 clocks isn't messing around really, you don't even need the whole thing, just transplant the speedo itself, go out with someone's sat nav and adjust the little screw on the back until its accurate :)

I pioneered that method, you know :D

:D:thumbs:

I've sent a message to Dakota to ask about postage costs, but I'll keep an eye out for some import clocks too.

Well, it looks like I'll be trying out Pete's pioneering method for sorting out the speedo inaccuracy (to put it mildly!) on my RB swaped S13.

I've bought a set of 180kph import clocks to go in my car, which cost me a bit more than i'd wanted ot pay, but still work out cheaper than a Dakota box (just).

What swung it for me was it removed the need for yet more splicing and soldering of my poor cars electrical system :(

I'll let you all know how I get on.

i use the ecu to recalculate the speed signal and send it back to my HUD... and it does a sexy sweep of rpm and speed on key on... raaaaaaaaaa!!

Does anyone know if an RB25 can work with a 240sx digi-dash? I love my clocks and want to retain them if possible :wack:

the rb 25 gearbox outputs half as many pulses as the ca gearbox. so youll need something to fix that.. hence why i use my ecu

Very nice. I'd love to have mine do the 'sweep' thing to match my Defi gauges, but I'd just be happy with something that reads in MPH for now!

I've got a KPH speedo sat on my desk in front of me now, so I should have it sorted later.

or there is one for 4 quid that a guy said got him through mot after failing on kmph clocks!:)
